Wanna help write a book?
I had a conversation with a woman from a publishing concern (InterVarsity Press) who has expressed some professional interest in our 'women-in-ministry' stories, with the added suggestion that 'women-in-leadership' might reach a larger and broader audience. Sooooooooooooo, if you want to help with this effort, send me [mizliz00725@hotmail.com] your favorite or most touching or most maddening 'women of faith in action' stories to collect and collate and send on to IVP. I'm not giving a word limit or such; I'm confident the stories will determine most of that themselves. At the end, please supply me with your name as you might want to see it in print, a title or postion if you want, and city/state. If you have questions or concerns or an idea for a killer title for such a book as this, just email me. Thanks - and let the stories be told!

Wow, I wish I was in leadership somewhere. Sounds like a great idea.

I'm thinking your story would be a valuable contribution. I'm betting most folks who are reading and participating in this blog have words of wisdom and encouragment for others who are seeking/strugglig to find their way in the unchartered waters of faith in the 21c. Sister, if you are blogging here at emergingwomen, you ARE in leadership. Just this week at the annual meeting of my state's Methodists, I heard over and over from women just beginning to hear whispers about 'emergent' and when they go peeking or seeking this blog, YOUR voice will be one leading them in our conversation! If you are interested, share your faith journey/story. Titles/positions/careerpaths are not required. Women's history shows that would be twice or thrice counterproductive. Grace.

I think you are right on target, mizliz ...

Lydia ... go for it! Your voice is needed and your story is important.

sounds great - i'm sure there will be some great stories told. what's the timeframe on this?

If you are interested, share your faith journey/story.

Wow, I hadn't thought of it that way.

    In that case, I'm interested.

I'm with Lydia...not an "official" leader in any way, shape, or form. I am so glad that this forum has given us non-ordained types a place to have a voice! I could weep, just knowing that there is a place where my personhood IS my credentials.

Liz, I'd like to contribute. Did the publisher mention anything about intended audience, or do you expect to discover it based on the stories submitted?

The publisher, thinking I had already collected these stories, says "send them". So, without a deadline because I don't have one, shall we be gracious to ourselves and give us July 22 (the Feast Day of Mary Magdalene) as the deadline for what I send as a preliminary "snack" and Sept. 1 for the final edit. Sooooo, if you can get your thoughts collected and written by in a month, that's what I'll get to IVPress for further discussion, allowing for the remainder by the end of summer. Does this work for y'all? Let me know if there are problems or other questions. Cool beans! Grace.

when you say "snack" do you mean sending them a few full essays or excerpts from each essay?

  • At 6/16/2006 05:40:00 PM, Blogger mizliz

I'm thinking I'll send whatever I have by July 22. But the entirety of the contributions. I can't cut and paste on my computer and I would, I must admit the possible pride thing here, I would be uneasy if someone started cutting-and-pasting something with my name on it, wily-nily. Good questions and things I hadn't thought of. Keep 'em comin'!

Glad to hear you say that, mizliz. I would have been a bit nervous about that as well.

So I emailed mizliz a question about this assignment today. She asked me to repost them here:

1)What is the definition of leadership? What does an emergent female leader look like?

i'm definitely in. does it matter if we mix the tragic with the good? or are you desiring only positive experiences? it just gives me a little direction.

    Nelda Sue,
Tell it like it IS! We've got enough folks sugar-coating our reality for us. In some part, this is hoped to be something of a guide or companion for folks considering this journey and ignoring the harsher terrain won't be as helpful. What is, is. Helpful hints and words of encouragement for the journey are good, too. And I'm looking forward to being trusted with and reading y'all's stories. Grace and good Sabbath.
