Ancient Prayers of Women

Random interesting news in the history of women. Apparently the oldest known song in the world is the prayer of a woman. "The Prayer for an Infertile Woman" was recently brought back after 3,200 years of silence - the plaintive cry of the infertile woman beseeching the moon goddess, Nikkal, for a solution to her problem. The inscribed tablet found in a Canaanite city contained the lyrics and enough musical notation for researchers to figure out how the song should be sung. I do find it interesting though that the modern premiere of the song was performed by a man.

To find out more about the tablet and watch a video of the song being sung - go here for the Chicago Tribune article.
